Brown Bear

Kodiak Island, the land of giants.  This is the number one place to come hunt the largest brown bears on the face of this planet.  We hunt these magnificent bears both in the spring and in the fall.  Both time frames offer excellent opportunities to take an incredible trophy of a lifetime. 

With the spring season brings the rut, boars will be on the roam searching for sows and will travel extreme distances in order to find them.  You will see unbelievable displays of bears wrestling, rubbing trees, and mating rituals once a boar has established dominance in his area.  The spring hunt brings more bears, and although their body sizes are not the same as when they went into the den, most of their hides are absolutely flawless.

With the fall hunt brings the tail end of the salmon spawn, bears are on their feet at different times of the day going through hyperphagia, which means they are searching for anything that’s edible before they den.  The fall hunt finds boars at their max body weight and potential, making for enormous sized hides and skulls.  Both seasons offer incredible hunting and opportunities for great experiences.  We commit to taking only the largest bears in our areas and you can expect to see 9’ and larger bears.

For our hunts, we make available a few different options to choose from...

Option #1
We can float plane or boat from the town of Kodiak to our hunting area where we will set up comfortable tents in a secure camping location. Camps will be close to shore and glassing knobs close to camp. This is done to reduce the amount of scent that we constantly try our best to eliminate. From our glassing knob this will be a spot-and-stalk hunt. Safety is our top priority while hunting from our tent camps. There will be an experienced bear guide with you at all times and the camp will have an electric fence to secure the perimeter during all hours of the day.

Option #2
Which is our boat/lodge based hunt (minimum 2 hunters).  This is premier hunting in style and comfort.  The boat offers a mobile glassing knob with many amenities; covered back observation deck with heat so you’re comfortable with any element Kodiak throws at us while glassing for bears. Three hot meals a day that have been prepared by a gourmet service in Kodiak which caters to our outfit.  Full bathroom with shower, galley, comfortable seating inside, and a top side observation deck for the beautiful days.  This is a spot from the boat and stalk on land style hunt.  There will be two experienced bear guides with you at all times during these hunts.  When the hunt is over for the day we will head over to the lodge to refit and recharge. The lodge offers exceptional comforts after a day at sea and excitement of all the bears seen.  The lodge has all the amenities you could hope for; shower, bathroom, kitchen, wood burning stove, multiple bedrooms to choose from, a heated drying rack for dry clothes and boots in the morning, and breathtaking views.  There will be a tenant on hand during our stay for fresh coffee, appetizers, washing of bed linens, keeping the fires burning, and excellent conversion.  The list can go on and on.  Please contact us for more information, we love to talk bears, it’s our passion!

Option #3
This hunt can be conducted on the Kodiak road system, which is an extremely large area around the Kodiak burrow. This is a registration hunt which means there is no draw and tags can be signed for at the local ADFG office in Kodiak. These hunts can be a great choice if you are not successful in the draw and want to go bear hunting that same year. Our guides have been on Kodiak a very long time and know the honey holes where chances are just as high for taking a massive bear there as in many other draw areas.
